Strikers Soccer team adopts Task Force Destiny for Christmas!

We have 10 new proud "Soldiers Angels!" Individually, they may not stand very tall yet, but together they did the work of giants. The Strikers U-9 team in Geneva, IL decided they wanted to help some of our soldiers overseas this holiday season.

With a little help from their parents, they created and distributed a flyer requesting donations from friends and neighbors. The response was overwhelming! I'll let their coach Bart explain:

The team shipped 21 boxes to the Task Force Destiny medical team in Afghanistan! We sent requested items including toiletries, food, socks, cd's, magazines, books and Christmas decorations.

The kids were thrilled to be involved in helping the troops. After collecting items individually, the team met to assemble the boxes. The kids dove right in - sorting all the items, wrapping with Christmas paper and packing the boxes. Additionally, every box contained at least one hand written letter or Christmas card. The kids each brought a card and we had to make more!

We were fortunate to have Roger Godskesen, a Soldier's Angel representative and Army veteran, present at our "wrapping party."

He explained to the kids how much their support means to the soldiers and shared a thank you email from Sergeant Timothy Bennet, the unit commanding officer . Roger also gave each of the kids a Soldiers Angels dog-tag, a brochure, and he donated one real army issued shirt worn by a soldier.

Great job Strikers!
-Rog
